Hello, Everyone!
I hope you visit this site whenever you are out or need an update on what has been going on in class. I am going to attempt to update this site every other week or so. Let me know what youe think!
So what’s happening for our reading classes for 2008? Well, we’ve been working on the new program called READ180. It’s a program that is based on an Instructional Model which includes:
Whole group – this means just that, the whole group watches a video clip about the subject area we are about to read about, go over some vocabulary, and have a short discussion.
Then the class rotates through the next three areas which include:
Individualizd reading – this is where you get to pick out a book of your choice to begin reading each day. When you’re done with the book, then a quiz is taken online to see if you’ve been paying attention to what you’ve been reading.
Small group – here we continue with the discussion from our “Whole Group” time and complete some questions, writings, and or graphic organizers.
READ180 software – this is where we get onto the computer and log on to do the actual READ180 software. It takes you from the “Reading Zone”, to the :”Word Zone”, and the “Spelling Zone”.
In a nutshell, this is what we’ve been working on each day, in all of our classes, except for Tuesdays. Tuesday is the day we go to our computer lab to work exclusively on Skills Tutor. Some of us are getting very good at this, even amidst all of the complaining!
For those of you who took the Scholastic Reading Inventory, or SRI, here are the Lexile ranges. I know that many of you were questioning what reading level you were on, and the Lexile range is just that — a range of between several reading levels.
